News from the Kurriculum Korner

Regular hours are Wednesdays and Thursdays from 1-5pm
If you need hours outside of that, call me- I am flexible.
I realize how hard it is to concentrate and focus when little ones are ready to leave after 5 minutes. Grab a sitter, bring a friend, bring your lunch and come sit and peruse all the wonderful materials..
Did you know there are over 20,000 books here? that’s a rough estimate, in the summer there are more than that..
I have over 300 consignors–some have a lot of things here, some only a few .
Most of the materials are in good to great condition, gently used. There are games, literature, art, music, math manipulative and flashcards galore, science kits, maps, coloring books, microscope slides and more.
Drive thru History, Living Learning Books, Electronics Lab, Chem lab, Sonlight Science kits and history guides, 2 shelves of Usborne Science books, Saxon Math, Financial Peace, My Fathers World, A Heart of Dakota guide for preschoolers, Life of Fred, Latin Road, Rod and Staff and I could go on and on…
Come see what’s here before you buy new. Support your local homeschool business and each other by purchasing local before online.
See my website for consignment policies and we even posted some pictures of the shop..I often hear “I did not know you had so many different things” .
Montessori, Charlotte Mason, Well Trained Mind all suggest lots of reading/reference books on your shelves. If you are using J Fulbright’s Anatomy and Physiology, there is a whole shelf of pop up-pull out body books, dna models, anatomy coloring book, “what happens when we eat” books that go along with that topic. Endless possibilities for endless learning…
See you soon,

MARK YOUR CALENDAR

Starting November 14th until after the first of the year I will be open by appointment only.
Please pass this on to those that are not on the loops, facebook etc.
I have done VERY little business over the last two weeks so I would like to go to appts for now. I am NOT closing– this rumor gets started every year. I know that everyone is busy over the holidays and I can do clean up, finish painting windows and trim, sort through the full shelves etc. without keeping regular hours for the shop.
I will keep messaging when appts come up so that if you want to tag along you are welcome. I am not planning on being gone for extended periods of time so call, message or email if you need something and we can work out a time.

News from the Kurriculum Korner

Have been working on payout checks for days!! There were over 130 checks for $6500.00
some were really large and some were small but lots of your books found new homes this summer!
Please do not throw the checks away! They come from my online banking account so they are not handwritten. They are the kind of checks that you have to fold and pull the tabs to open. Remind your husbands not to throw away any mail this week and next. There is a few days pause from when I send it through the bank to when it gets mailed and then there is the usual postal time.

Remember, I cannot give you a list of what has sold. By looking at the above numbers, you can guess why. I would have to hand write all the checks, envelopes and purchase stamps ( almost 50 cents a piece). If I mailed you a check and you throw it away, you moved without telling me, or the post office loses it, I cannot replace it until it is re added into my checking account after 90 days.

I will keep everyone posted about my winter hours on the loop and on facebook. I will close for regular hours in the next month (date not yet determined) but will be here for appointments if you need things or want to send a new homeschooler my way. I am not going out of town (not planned anyway) so let me know if you are still looking or want to change your curriculum..

Happy Fall Y’All,

Musing’s After the Holidays

It has been a busy few weeks now that we are back in the swing of things after the holiday season. Usually it is very quiet this time of year but this year seems different. Some of the materials that are old standby’s are being called into action again to replace those things that were purchased at conferences or that are just not a good fit. Some people are looking to replace “home schooling” with “home school” or vice-versa. They are actually two very different things. Neither is wrong, just very different philosophies. It is interesting to watch dynamics of families, watch lights come on after reading “The Way They Learn” by Tobias or observe realization that character is a huge part of home schooling and sometimes it needs to come first over academics. I love sharing in some of the interesting things God is doing in the rather large home school community here in Louisville. I am blessed to be a part of that community and hope and pray that my “advice” or “counsel” is worthy.
I pray that everyone has a successful, blessed year as they “raise their children in the way they should go”. If you need help getting there, please know that I am here to help in any way that I can.
I am open on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 1-5pm..
Karen
